It is finally here! CG Motocorp, the sole authorized distributor of Suzuki cars in Nepal has finally launched the much anticipated Suzuki Jimny 5-Door… And we get to take it out for a quick spin…
Let’s get some numbers out of the way first. The Suzuki Jimny will start from Rs 59.99 Lakh in Nepal. The SUV will be available in two variants – Zeta (Rs 59,99,000) and Alpha (Rs 64,49,000), in manual trim only.
Like all its generations dating back to the past half century, the new Jimny looks old school. All the trademark Jimny design elements, such as upright pillars, clean surfacing, round headlamps, slatted grille, chinky off-road tyres, and flared wheel arches are all there and they look handsomely put together.
Inside, however, the Jimny comes with the same old-timer interior but with modern-day features that all of us can’t live without. Things like automatic air conditioning, and touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth connectivity. And it does go one up with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features include 6 airbags, ESP with hill hold assist, hill descent control, rear-view camera and ABS with EBD. Let’s take it for a spin.
The 5-door Jimny gets Maruti Suzuki’s K15B petrol engine, which is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine delivers 105hp and 134Nm of peak torque. It also receives Maruti’s mild-hybrid technology. Similarly, the Jimny will offer a range of 16.94 km/l. The Jimny is a light car and you feel it while on the road. It picks up speed faster than its numbers suggest, the Jimny almost feels like a 2.0 Liter when you are hammering down the tarmac. But the light vehicle does show its disadvantages by rolling on corners.
On the off-road front, the Jimny is amazing. Purposely built there’s nothing that the Jimny can’t drive over thanks to its All Grip Pro 4WD System. Slot the car into 4H and absolutely speed through any obstacles or better yet slot it below to 4L and the Jimny just crawls over anything.
Overall, the Jimny is easy to drive on the road and an absolute joy to drive off of it. We can’t wait to have the Jimny for a full review, for now, this first impression will have to suffice but do stay tuned for a detailed review.
